Best Paper Student Awards
Each of the three conferences (IJCNN/FUZZ-IEEE/CEC) will have a best student paper competition. Two best student paper awards for CEC will be sponsored by the Evolutionary Programming Society (EPS), while one will be given to each of IJCNN and FUZZ-IEEE. Every student author will have an opportunity to compete for these awards. The competition is open to all students whether or not they are IEEE/CIS student members. Cash awards and certificates will be conferred at the Award Banquet. No application is needed. The winners will be chosen by a committee of experts and notified by the Student Activities Chair, Slawo Wesolkowski.
Student Travel Support
The IEEE/CIS Student Travel Grant Program offers a limited number of travel grants to assist IEEE/CIS Student Members presenting papers at IEEE CIS-sponsored conferences. For more information please see the travel grant webpage.

The awards for Phase I grant are complete and assigned. The web-based Grant Application System Phase II grants is reopened now. You can always register in the system at any time. Only complete applications from eligible students will be accepted. The applications must reach the IEEE/CIS Education Committee Chair by the due date of May 31, 2006. Please, note that there is no need to send proof of IEEE and IEEE/CIS membership as membership will be verified through the IEEE member database. The expected decision notification will be made by June 7, 2006.

All travel grant submissions are to be entered into the Grant Application System. No paper application needs to be sent to the chair. Students will be required to present some documentation at the conference (please see the website for details). Travel grant amounts have not been determined yet. See previous travel grant results for an indication of possible travel grant amounts. If you have any questions please, email the IEEE/CIS Educational Activities Committee Chair, s.wesolkowski<@>ieee.org.

Tutorial Grants
At WCCI2006, the IEEE/CIS will start to provide tutorial grants to defray the cost of tutorial registration for IEEE student and GOLD (members within ten years of their first professional degree) members. These grants are separated from travel grants and will be given on a first-come-first-take basis to those members who would otherwise not be able to afford the tutorial fee. Students, please have your supervisors send a brief letter of reference. GOLD members need to send a brief letter indicating their particular circumstances. If not enough grants are available for all applicants, a determination of who should receive a grant will be made based on the letters. All student and GOLD members need to be IEEE and IEEE/CIS members. The application needs to be made through the Grant Application System. Members will be able to apply for tutorial grants after May 22, 2006. Preference will be given to those not receiving a travel grant. Any inquiry should be directed to IEEE/CIS Educational Activities Committee Chair, s.wesolkowski<@> ieee.org.
